In this course you will focus on learning the science behind nutrition, and its application in improving the nutritional status of populations. This will also corroborate you communication and teamwork skills, as your first year is professional and is conducted in collaboration with other health sciences students. In your second year you will make a choice between two areas of study: Nutrition or Food Science.
Nutrition: This course will help you grasp the link between diet and health outcomes, by exploring the social and cultural determinants amongst a group of people. You can test this out by carrying out a nutrition research project.
Food Science: Being the only undergraduate degree offered in Western Australia which is a stream in food science and it focuses on the chemical composition of foods, and how ingredients behave under different processing conditions, and the implementation of this knowledge to maintain the safety and quality of food. This will involve multiple field trips throughout the course as well as a work placement with an external organization.
