It's a good idea to get yourself sorted with insurance when arriving in the US but be sure to find the best policy that suits your needs.

Health insurance

There is as such no specific insurance requirement for international students. However institutions determine the base level of coverage required. If your institution has no specific insurance requirements, then it should be carefully consider the level of coverage you may need, maybe insufficient coverage could leave you with very weighty expenses if medical treatment required.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance policies vary, depending on the type of cover is required. A typical travel insurance policy covers stolen or loss possessions, and maybe medical care.

Contents insurance

Student Property Insurance in the U.S., which covers belongings against loss or damage caused by theft, vandalism, fire, storms and by any other natural causes. Many policies set limits on the size of any claims.
