Criminology is a multidisciplinary science that studies various sets of information related to criminal activities such as individual and group activities, criminal offenses and effective ways of rehabilitating people. In Australia, the Diploma of Criminology and Criminal Justice leads directly to the second year of the Bachelor program at Griffith University, where students can choose from such majorities as: Laws, Crime and Criminal Justice. The Diploma of Criminology and Criminal Justice enters the first year of a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and provides a foundation on the fundamentals of the four processes in which it is built: law, political science, psychology and sociology. The length of the Diploma course is three trimesters (12 months). There is an option, however, to immediately follow the course and finish it in two trimesters (8 months). Griffith College creates a positive experience including: a full year of study equivalent to the first year of the Griffith College bachelor's program.

Students will gain appropriate knowledge of public policy and the ability to interpret their impact on society. They also develop skills such as critical visualization and attention to detail, strong analysis and critical thinking. A criminal expert has a thorough knowledge of research methods and understands the causes of criminal behavior.
