University of Sussex
The University of Sussex is a prominent research-based university located in Falmer, Sussex, England, possessing a campus enclosed by the South Downs National Park situated close to central Brighton. While obtaining its Royal Charter in August 1961, the University went on to become a founding member of a group of research-based universities. Following both and international and local outline, they possess staff and students from over 100 countries and regularly partake in community activities and services.
Sussex has a disparate community with over 17,000 students, with approximately 5,500 foreign students, and over 2000 faculty members, belonging to 140 different nationalities. The yearly turnover of the University over the period 2016–17 was £286.1 million with expenses amounting to £270.4 million.
Sussex’s Development studies program ranked 1st globally in the QS World University Ranking, and the university is renowned for its Humanities and Social Sciences departments. Sussex offers a variety of accommodation facilities, situated on and off campus, which means you could reside fairly close to the place where you learn and interact with people.
You can choose between eleven bars, cafés and restaurants, which provide everything from vegetarian food to the conventional fish and chips. A market is also set up every week which sells great street food, clothes, posters, music, and books. You can also participate in a fitness class, play sports such as football, cricket and squash, or be a member of a sports society. The campus hosts two sports centers, where you can access resources like including fitness rooms, sports halls, squash courts and outdoor pitches as well as a range of combined group exercise classes. There are a total of 261 student clubs and societies at Sussex, all operating under the Student Union. Sussex manages a Junior Researcher scheme which enables undergraduate students to be funded and spend 8 weeks of their summer vacation conducting research-based experiments alongside Sussex researchers and academics. Additionally, independent bursaries are also offered to undergraduates to facilitate them in research projects exist within Schools and research centers.

The StartUp Sussex Entrepreneurship competition provides support and possible funding, and is open for applications every autumn. All undergraduates are offered a paid placement in their final year of study, through a dedicated Placements Team which you can get from your first year.
