Australia Student Visa Requirement

The length of the student visa for Australia is up to 5 years. Information related to each type of visa is available on the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) website.


ImmiAccount can be created using Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) online services.

You need to complete your student visa application, attach documents and Pay the visa application fee. You can also track the status of your visa via ImmiAccount once you have submitted it.

The general student visa requirements are:


Attach a copy of your identity card, your birth certificate and your passport.

PROVIDING EVIDENCE of Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) provides a list of courses and institutes in which you can get registered. You will get a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) for your study


You need to show results of language proficiency testing.  The table below shows the English language test providers and the minimum general bands you must meet to meet the English language Visa for students. You must have taken an English language test 2 years before applying for a student visa.

You and your family members must have and maintain adequate health insurance throughout your stay in Australia. You and your family members must be covered by Overseas Student Cover (OSHC) from an Australian health insurance provider.  If you are an overseas student with a temporary student visa it is mandatory keep adequate health insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia. This means you need to buy Overseas Student Cover (OSHC) and keep your policy up-to-date while you are in Australia and carry a student visa. OSHC aids foreign students in meeting the medical costs they need while their stay in Australia.


While applying for a student visa, you must have sufficient money to pay for your fee.  You must provide any:

  • sufficient funds to cover travel expenses and 12 months living expenses and tuition fees for you and your family members to accompany you and the school fees of any dependents, or
  • Proof that your spouse or parents are willing to support you and have an annual income of at least AUD 60,000 single students or at least AUD 70,000 for students accompanying family members
  • Acceptance counseling form for Secondary Exchange Students for exchange school students only
  • A letter of support from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade or the Department of Defense.


Proof that you meet the requirements for a student visa. You need to write a statement to justify your statement in Australia and provide documents to support claims. The statement must be written by the applicant even if you are using an agent.

You can add evidence like:

  • Proof of employment - your current or recent employment including payslips or contract. You can also submit your latest curriculum vitae or CV. Your curriculum vitae or CV should include employment history and educational history.
  • Graduation - a certified copy of your academic transcript, Certificate (Degree, Diploma etc.) or letter / statement from your overseas educational institution.
  • Australian degrees - a certified copy of your academic transcript, Certificate (Certificate, Diploma etc.) or letter / statement from your Australian educational institution.


If you are under 18, you need to have a consent letter from your parents or sponsors.
