Cyber Security also known as Information Technology (IT) Security specializes in protecting computers, networks, servers, mobile devices, and data from malicious attacks. The growing number of Internet-connected devices and the numerous new attacks from cyber criminals represent some of the biggest challenges for Cyber Security professionals. Some of the topics you can expect to learn during a Bachelor or Master's in Cyber Security are: basic principles of security, IT system elements, script management, cryptography, cyber threats, accounting, legal and ethical issues and others. Computers with networks run our world. From houses to hospitals, airports to banks and everything in between, everything is connected - but these systems are easy to access and attack. Study MSc Cyber Security and you will gain the expertise to become a part of security.
By learning how to design, implement and manage computer-based security, you will develop the skills and confidence to succeed in a number of cyber security roles, including security designer, ethics and digital forensics officer. Starting with the basics, you will gain a broad understanding of the various levels of computer and network security. As you progress, you will explore both the technical aspects and the strategic planning and implementation of network security management. You will also learn how to investigate systems after a violation. On the whole, you will be supported by the most experienced staff who have practical experience at the forefront of this dynamic situation. And working in our specialist labs with the latest hardware and software will give you a project experience to support real-world network security situations.
The advanced skills and insights you will develop in this MSc course can place you in the cyber security roles of the industry, in both the public and private sectors. You can apply for jobs such as information security specialist, information security software engineer, behavioral security, security developer or security inspector, to name a few. Your masters can also provide a basis for further studies - whether you live in Manchester Met or elsewhere.
