Building Services Engineering - MSc

Heriot-Watt University Building Services Engineering course considers low carbon building design and integration of renewable energy systems into buildings. It deals with engineering issues of services while building the skills required to meet challenges in a working environment. As a conversion course, it gives you a good foundation to start, or accelerate, a career as a Building Services Engineer - or Technical Sustainability Consultant. The Building Services Engineering curriculum is flexible and aimed at graduates with engineering degrees or construction backgrounds. The Heriot-Watt Architectural Engineering course is delivered by the Royal Engineering Academy Center of Excellence of Sustainable Building Design. It is one of four such centers established in UK universities that jointly form a national network to showcase and exchange best practice in teaching and research for a sustainable built environment. The center also ensures that graduates from this curriculum will be used to work within an inter-disciplinary environment involving architecture, engineering and construction.

There is a growing need for architects, engineers, facilities managers, quantity surveyors and other construction professionals who understand the need to mitigate against future carbon emissions and adapt to future climate hazards and predictions. Professionals who understand the design life cycle and who can make the appropriate material and design decisions that now meet the needs of building users, but conserve resources for future generations are sought in every industry sector.
