This course gives you an in-depth understanding of the social, environmental, political and economic factors that influence health. You will understand how to promote policies and create environments that promote healthy choices, as well as plan, carry out and analyze health promotion programs. The first year of this course focuses on the foundations of health promotion pertinent to professional health practice, biostatistics, epidemiology and health in social and cultural contexts. In the preceding years, there will also be an on-campus health promotion campaign, while health and safety will be displayed firsthand on the various field-trips.
The Department of Health Promotion is closely affiliated with the globally recognized Western Australian Centre for Health Promotion Research located at Curtin, which opens doors to participate in new and innovative health promotion research courtesy of the major grants it attracts. Not only this, the department staff have won numerous teaching awards including a University Innovative Teaching Practice Award, while eight faculty members have won Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in recent years.
