Journalism is the practice of gathering information about events, issues and ways of using them and presenting them as news to a larger audience. The information is distributed through a variety of media including print, broadcast and online environment. Journalism covers aspects ranging from communication sciences, media studies, humanities and social sciences. It also faces many ethical and hypocrisy challenges in daily activities. The Multimedia Course Journalism equips you to become a journalist with media awareness, news acquisition and storytelling skills to thrive in today's multimedia media environment. We live in a connected world with current access to any issues we want, whenever and wherever we want. We don’t have to wait for the newspaper to hit the streets or the evening news stories; anyone with a smartphone can become a reporter, be able to record, edit and publish whatever they like. The challenge for trained journalists in this digital age is to provide reliable news and information, to meet the demands of new technology and to change practices without sacrificing professional standards. Our qualifications are also designed for the future needs of this rapidly changing sector, informing our curriculum, program design, institutions and staff. Led by former BBC News Online Manager Tim Fenton, our study focuses on good writing, independence, accuracy and ethics, values that have always been supportive of leading journalism. But in Essex we are moving forward, using those values in the new world of social media and mobile technology. As a student at one of the UK's leading centers of social sciences and a pioneer of literature and writing, you are set to gain a deeper understanding of the world in which you report and develop your strong journalism style.
