At Edith Cowan University, the Bachelor of Information Technology program will provide students with a core of IT technology and will allow for a major in Information Systems, Networks and Security or Software Development. The IT technology segment begins in the first year and talks about IT skills such as understanding the basics of computer technology, how to design and build websites, computer systems, data management, software development and human-computer interaction. This is followed by advanced IT year 2 skills including software technology, data security and IT services management.

Information Technology courses are in Year 3 of the program. Information Systems is huge, covering topics such as business analysis, IS architecture, business / IT alignment and project management. Networks and security consider the design, control and management of different types of networks and network security. Software Development main offers a combination of courses that give students a background in technical on-line programming, software quality management, software development process and communication within the business. Students who have majored in Information Systems will be prepared for an International Institute of Business Analysis certification while those who are taking Networks and Security are ready for a network certification.
