Course Details

The University of Hertfordshire Environmental Management and Ecology degree is designed to develop a variety of management and environmental skills and to provide students with practical field experience, with a career placement option or a year of study abroad. Students have a unique opportunity for our Bay ford burial station with a living area and a variety of living areas (woods, dusty area, lakes, ponds, rivers, park, cranes and apiary). This provides students with resources where they can do surveys and do further research on gaining real-world conservation skills. The course equips you to learn how to tackle some of the world's major problems including: habitat destruction and destruction, loss of biodiversity, climate change, water scarcity and environmental pollution.

This course gives you the opportunity to learn some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time, including biodiversity loss, climate change, invasive species, land use change, pollution, food security and water scarcity. Most of these issues are culturally based and therefore the study focuses on the concept of nature, use and management. Topics on biodiversity conservation, environmental management, habitat management and land restoration, environmental law, environmental economics, ecological impact assessment, and environmental quality assessment, are all included.

This qualification is highly accredited and have excellent career opportunities due to the diverse curriculum, a strong focus on career and practical experience, a year of industry placement and strong relationships with working bodies and employers in business, industry, regulatory agencies and government. We are currently ranked 9th nationally for the employment of students in the department of natural sciences and geography. Graduates have found successful careers within the Agency for Environment, United Nations Environment Program, water companies, natural resource management, private consulting, local government, urban and national planning, leisure and residential management, teaching and, multi-disciplinary recruitment and graduate study.
