In today's fast-paced digital age, we have never been arrested for news - we share it with many people in real time, as it happens. Deakin University's Bachelor of Communication (journalism) will provide you with the skills to get good news, interact with your viewers and transmit news to multiple media platforms. From day one, you'll have the opportunity to discover, research and edit stories and feature stories, so you can write, edit and publish them directly from our news lab and creative labels in schools. With industry experience, and led by experienced media practitioners in all aspects of print, television, radio and digital, you will learn about: public journalism, news and ethics, journalism, mass media and broadcast journalism and much more.
During Study in Australia, the course is designed to achieve the essential skills and knowledge required to obtain a journalism job. Students gain valuable insight into the role that journalists play in shaping the democratic community, providing a forum for dialogue and giving voice to diverse communities. These courses equip students with advanced research, writing, reporting and analytical skills for print, television, video, radio, listeners and online media; and knowledge of the basics of journalism, ethics and political science
While developing your knowledge in media and media, you will also have the experience of broadcasting after your lesson through lessons through a major newspaper, radio station or television network. This course will prepare you for a career in the telecommunications industry, across all social media platforms, whether you work for large news organizations, affiliate or private media businesses. Career options include reporter, producer, editor, social media editor, junior editor, freelance journalist, investigative journalist, researcher, and print, broadcast and online communications technology. Graduates are often employed in media-related fields, such as a communications consultant, content producers and employees in non-governmental organizations and other public organizations, such as unions, universities and charities.
