Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering (Hons) - BEng
English Requirements
- IELTS Overall Band: 6.0
This Aerospace Engineering course looks at aircraft construction, especially aircraft structures, materials and aerodynamics. The first passenger plane, the Comet, was manufactured and tested at Hatfield. Since then, the aviation industry has seen unprecedented technological progress. The university has a strong track record of providing aviation engineers with aviation skills. This accredited degree is very similar to our BEng Honors degree in Aerospace Systems Engineering but focuses more on material design and aircraft design. It provides the first step towards a chartered engine environment. At Coventry’s non-accredited Aerial Vehicle (UAV) lab, you will have the opportunity to engage with UAVs as additional curriculum work or as part of your final year project. In your first year, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge required by a modern engineer including the principles of flight and flight management. In particular you will be introduced to the most widely used computer packages in the aerospace industry. For your second year, first-year themes are developed for use in aerospace engineers. You will learn about the design process through team design and database design, as well as expand your knowledge of aerodynamics, and wind tunnel testing. You will also have the opportunity to fly to a local flying school.
You can take a year of placement if you wish, where you will get a great job, and this will be followed by your fourth year where for many, the Aerospace Design team is a culmination of your study where they can apply your engineering skills and complete flight design skills to a competitive environment. For some the self-esteem developed during the Individual Project that challenged them to research the right topic on their own using University or industrial institutions is the most rewarding part of your grade and may lead to future employment. There is also the opportunity for flying lessons. You will be entering your final year where you will be studying at the Masters level, increasing your knowledge and understanding of aviation topics and developing your business and management skills. The Project Project is multi-faceted and involves using your skills to solve unusual and challenging problems, for example the design of an unmanned aerial vehicle.
