Accounting is the process of sending financial information about a business to the relevant users or entities such as shareholders, debtors (including banks or brokers), financial analysts, economists, and government agencies. Accounting can be divided into two main categories: Accounting and financial management. Accounting managers focus on reporting to people within the business and provide information to employees, managers, owners, managers and auditors. In Australia, ultimate goal is to provide managers with the basis for making major decisions related to management and operations.
La Trobe University program Bachelor of Accounting offers scholarships in areas of work including accounting, accounting, finance, business law and taxation. You can choose to supplement your degree by doing a second major or minor in fields such as financial planning, administration, accounting and business finance. You will learn: Finance and accounting management - Be aware and apply the principles of accounting that govern the preparation, presentation and communication of accounting information. Auditing - Understand the concepts involved in the accounting process and integrate them into effective systems. Taxes - Examine the Corporate income tax rules and the income tax implications for individuals and businesses. Business law - Investigate the basic principles of consumer protection law, property law and apathy. Economics and finance - Learn different economic concepts and how they are used in business and policy making. Statistics - Examine the relationships between business, financial systems and the wider world.
As an alternative to learning about these majors, the Bachelor of Accounting allows you to select nomination units for other disciplines throughout the University. You may choose a set of units that will equip you for a specific field. The Bachelor of Accounting will provide you with technical and accounting skills as well as analytics, communication and financial skills to succeed in a variety of career fields. The accountant never works for a financial company. Graduates will be well placed to find work in a variety of roles including as: Systems accountant, Management accountant, Financial accountant, Financial controller, Financial planner, Taxation specialist, Auditor and Account Consultant.
